Don't Kill Innocent People, But We Can!

I have two friends who are on their way to Washington D.C. right now in order to protest the Congress' and the President's new war on terrorism.

Now is it just me, or does this seem incredibly stupid. Protesting a war that does not exist!??? That's just about as stupid as calling this endeavor a "War".

The only reason my pals are going to do this is because in their pacifist vocabulary, they do not like the word "war". Granted, they thoroughly enjoy films like "Fight Club", "Die Hard", "Pulp Fiction", etc .... but NOOOOO .... when it comes to the word "war" ... they must protest.

I have no clue what there is to protest at this point. There have been no policy decisions announced yet, no executive orders, no bounty on Bin Laden, and no calm to arms. So, what, if anything, is there to protest.

Protesting this on the fact that it's simply a "War" is just as silly as calling this action of justice a "war".

These are the same kind of people who would have protested World War II, because, "it was a war".

That aside, I want all of you to consider something that many people don't: combined with the other nations in the world, there exist enough thermonuclear weapons to completely obliterate all human and most mammalian life on this planet. We make these statements that other countries and "groups" do not have the right to challenge our sovereign right to freedom and life. Yet, we have in our military arsenals weapons of mass genocide. I'm not saying that term as an exaggerative point. They are weapons to do mass destruction, but more importantly, to kill mass numbers of people a.k.a. Genocide. They are not weapons designed to be used in a tactical battle theater. Launching a single 10 Megaton Warhead into Manhatten would flatten the entire island and destroy most of the surrounding area. Launching even a 1 megaton bomb into a battle scenario would obliterate your forces as well.

The average warhead is approximately 5 - 8 megatons, while the bomb dropped on Hiroshima was a 0.2 Megaton bomb or 20 Kiloton bomb. Now, the average ICBM (missile) has about 5 or 6 warheads ... or the total destructive capacity of 50 Megatons. This is not a weapon intended to be used against some military target. You can't take out a military bunker in a city with even one warhead without completely destroying the city and killing everyone within the blast radius.

We whine and cry about terrorists killing thousands and how it's wrong for them to want to kill mass numbers of innocent people. Well, we have in our arsenals weapons which are designed to kill millions in less time than it takes to blink your eyes.

Not to blame what happened on ourselves or our country, but I wince at the hypocracy envidenced in our country. If we're going to say that mass murder of civilians is wrong, then why do we allow our government to reinforce our own nuclear weapon policy despite disarmament treaties.

On a note to end all this rambling, I leave you something to think about. Disregarding the personal freedoms we are awarded in this country, imagine you're a citizen who has been raised in and live in, a small foreign country with a non-nuclear weapons policy. Imagine what your perception of countries like the United States, France, and England would be. Here are countries that espouse personal freedoms to life, police the world in the name of "democracy", yet have weapons designed to kill millions of people indiscriminately. They tell the world that ethnic cleansing, genocide, political imprisonment, and the like are wrong, yet have weapons aimed at cities where millions of people live because there is a "military installation" nearby.
