I was just watching an HBO America Undercover special on a dirt-poor Appalachian family and their dirt-poor lifestyle.

Like many poor people in this country they blame everyone else for their problems, especially the government, who they "hear news about" from locals who live in or near a town.

Complaining that food stamps don't pay the bills and that he must work to make money and feed his four children, one father of this rural family commented: "They [the government] can't starve people to death, and they can't put everyone to work".

Hmmm, they can't starve people to death, and they can't put people to work? Well, he's right, the government can't starve people to death and it can't make people work, but I guess that it can't abandon capitalism for Tom Bowling and his wonderful lifestyle of "squirrel shooting" and collecting rain water to wash clothes.
